When to choose the HTM magnetic drive pump
The HTM is the plastic magnetic drive horizontal centrifugal pump in the Nuova Darimpianti range. The motor turns the impeller through an external magnetic core and an internal magnet separated by a sealed containment shell, so there is no rotating mechanical seal and no point where liquid can weep out to the atmosphere. The pump is built in polypropylene (PP) or PVDF for temperatures up to 90 °C, offers high magnetic torque, and no metal part comes into contact with the pumped liquid.
Compared with the PMC-1 and PMC-2, which use a single or double flushed mechanical seal, the HTM is the obvious candidate among pumps for hazardous liquids: toxic or fuming fluids, expensive products, unattended plants. Like any magnetic drive pump it must not run dry and prefers clean liquids; if the fluid carries solids, a mechanically sealed pump or a VSK vertical pump is usually a better fit.
- Transfer and recirculation of acids in chemical and electroplating plants
- Feeding surface treatment baths
- Handling hydrochloric acid and other fuming acids
- Recirculation in gas scrubbing systems
- Moving hazardous chemicals between storage tanks and process users
Frequently asked questions
How does the HTM differ from lined magnetic drive pumps?
Lined magnetic drive pumps usually have a metal casing protected by an internal plastic liner. The HTM is built in PP or PVDF and no metal part touches the liquid, so there is no liner that can peel off or be damaged.
Can the HTM be used as a hydrochloric acid pump?
PP and PVDF are both widely used with hydrochloric acid, but the right choice depends on concentration and temperature. Send us the fluid data and we will confirm the material, always within the pump’s 90 °C limit.
How much maintenance does it need?
Without a mechanical seal, the part that wears most often on an acid pump is gone. The HTM is designed for very easy maintenance; the main rules are to avoid dry running and keep solids out.
